Art Artifact Artifice is the show catalog from James Prosek's exhibit at the Yale University Gallery of Art that took place in 2020 during the pandemic.
The exhibition explored the blurred lines between art, nature, and human categorization, challenging the boundaries we place on the natural world by juxtaposing scientific specimens with art objects. The project questions what we define as "art" versus "artifact" (a human-made object) and "artifice" (skillful creation), suggesting that nature itself is full of artistry and that human creativity is not so different from animal behavior.
